Have a Go

The “Have a Go initiative” hopes to encourage greater engagement from young people in schools in vocational options. It involves organising events in Schools and getting them to think about their future. Trying out new skills on a range of fun and interactive activities. Have a go equipment kits will provide learners with an opportunity to try out virtual welding, operating robots, simulated tractor, building a set of traffic lights and even creating a character and voice over track - to name but a few.

The ESTnet represents the electronic and software technologies industry in Wales. Our members develop everything from smartphone components and apps, to products that improve healthcare, to those which make electronic power steering possible in cars. Featured companies include Sony; Yard; Occupassion; Method4; IQE

F1 in Schools Secondary Schools Challenge

The F1 in Schools 3D challenge involves designing and manufacturing CO2 powered model racing cars using sophisticated computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) skills.

Schools can involve as many  pupils as they wish  and can enter three teams of up to six students in the Regional Finals.  Each pupil is assigned a role within the team.  The teams are encouraged to raise sponsorship and are involved in all stages of the process of designing and making the model car, including a series of wind tunnel tests.  The cars are raced along a 20 metre track at speeds of around 60mph!

Teams are assessed on the speed of the car, promotional materials, displays showing their design process and a verbal presentation.
